Famitsu is a Japanese video game magazine series published by Kadokawa Game Linkage (formerly Gzbrain), a subsidiary of Kadokawa. It was initially known as Famicom Tsūshin before being renamed as Famitsu. This magazine is available in both weekly and monthly formats as well as special topical issues that focus on specific consoles, video game companies or themes. Shūkan Famitsū, which was the original publication, is highly respected in Japan as the most widely read and trusted video game news magazine. Since October 28th, 2011, Famitsu has been released digitally on BookWalker weekly. The name "Famitsu" is derived from "Famicom" which itself comes from "Family Computer," the Japanese name for Nintendo Entertainment System, which was popular in Japan when the magazine was first published in the 1980s.
