Waai! is a Japanese manga magazine that was published by Ichijinsha from April 2010 to February 2014. It featured manga about male characters who cross-dress, either willingly or due to circumstance. The magazine also included articles, interviews, and reviews. Its sister magazine, Waai! Mahalo, was published for six issues from April 2012 to December 2013 and only contained manga. Initially published as a special issue of Monthly Comic Rex, Waai! was later spun out as a separate magazine due to its editor-in-chief Toshinaga Hijikata's aim to create a magazine with broader appeal than existing cross-dressing magazines. Manga in the magazines included one-shots and series that combined cross-dressing with themes of gay male romance and societal rules of femininity. Popular manga series included Reversible! by Dicca Suemitsu, Sazanami Cherry by Rika Kamiyoshi, and Himegoto by Norio Tsukudani, which saw an anime adaptation in 2014. Initially popular with male audiences, Waai! gradually built a female following by late 2011, representing about a third of its readership.
