From early childhood, Lady Oscar was brought up as a man in charge of guarding the palace at Versailles prior to the French Revolution. Her captivating appearance and virtuous character made her an admired figure among both men and women. However, she grappled with reconciling her commitment to serving her country and class, with her own heart's desires and aspirations. Despite living in luxury within the opulent surroundings of Versailles, Lady Oscar remained acutely aware of the hardships faced by the French people.
On July 11, 2015, Udon Entertainment revealed that they had licensed Versailles no Bara for release in English as Rose of Versailles. The publisher plans to release the series in 2-in-1 omnibuses though a release date has yet to be announced. The series was published in Polish as Róża Wersalu by J.P.Fantastica in three omnibuses from April 2016 to November 2017.
