The manga depicts isobe isobee as a slacker who is also a lazy and unmotivated samurai. he lives with his mother, who believes in him highly. despite being indolent and secretly viewing edo-era pornography while avoiding detection by his mother, he dreams of becoming an honorable samurai someday.

Isobe Isobee Monogatari was initially published as a one-shot manga in Shounen Jump in the 26th and 27th issues of 2013 to fill in a slot temporarily vacated by One Piece at that time; however, due to the tremendous amount of positive feedback it received, the manga got serialized.Starting from the 11th issue of 2015, the series was placed at the end of the magazine and no longer participated in Shounen Jumps ranking system.
