At Eitoku Academy, a prestigious institution attended by affluent students from high society families, there is a working-class girl named Tsukushi Makino. Surrounded by the elite "Flower" Four (F4), including their leader and scion of Japan's wealthiest family, Tsukasa Domyoji, Tsukushi stands out as an outsider due to her lack of interest in fawning over him. Despite initially finding his hot-headed nature and bullying behavior off-putting, Tsukushi eventually sets her sights on someone else.

Hana yori Dango won the 41st Shogakukan Manga Award for best shoujo manga in 1995.The series was published in English as Boys Over Flowers by VIZ Media from August 6, 2003 to June 9, 2009. It was also published in Spanish by Planeta Cómic as No me lo digas con flores from 2004 to 2010. The same publisher is releasing the kanzenban edition on September 17, 2017.
