In ancient times, ninjas were known as merciless demigods who ruled Japan with their karate during the era of peace. However, some among them committed a forbidden form of hara-kiri and stored their souls at Kinkaku Temple for future resurrection. Their history was falsified and concealed, leading to the eventual forgetting of the truth about these ninjas. Fast forward to the present day where cybernetic technology and electronic networks have become ubiquitous. Suddenly, sinister ninja souls that were resurrected from thousands of years ago are unleashed on the dark corners of Neo-Saitama. Fujikido Kenji, a salaryman whose family was killed in a ninja war, finds himself possessed by an enigmatic ninja soul and becomes Ninja Slayer, cheating death to take on Soukai Syndicate ninjas in mortal combat. Meanwhile, the Grim Reaper is destined to kill evil ninjas and embarks on a personal vengeance war set in the dystopian underworld of Neo-Saitama.
