Russell, a young man living off of hunting whale-squids in the ocean near liberistan, encounters an unknown entity called liv while diving deep underwater. with liv's help, he gains control over a yunboro and becomes determined to succeed in life on land. meanwhile, sukaya, daughter of augustonia's cabinet minister, is weary from her fruitless efforts. her situation improves when ignite, an awakened humanoid robot, selects her as its pilot. as gargantia travels through various lands, a new tale unfolds involving hope and freedom for the boy and girl.
