This led him to become despondent and attempt suicide on the night of his high school graduation. However, he was saved by a pure white girl named Nasse who presented herself as a guardian angel seeking to bring happiness to him. In order to secure this happiness, she granted Mirai supernatural abilities and the opportunity to compete with 12 other "God Candidates" for the position of the new God within 999 days. As a result, a fierce battle royale ensued between Mirai and his rivals in their quest for power over the world.
