Kaito Arihara is a high school student who has always struggled with his lack of affinity for animals. On his way home from school one day, he stumbles upon a magic circle that surrounds his classmate Chisato Shishihara. Suddenly, he is transported into an unknown space where he meets Schiff, a shape-shifting monster in the form of a black cat. Schiff discovers that Kaito possesses unique mana that allows him to become a "Tamer," a powerful being capable of controlling monsters. However, despite Schiff's offer to be his familiar, Kaito discovers that it is more efficient for him to fight on his own using his newfound abilities. As he searches for a way of life in this new world, he encounters Leafa, a girl who knows his name and has just been summoned, as well as Chisato Shishihara, who has been separated from him.
