During the 19th century in England, Connie struggled financially as she raised her four children alone. Eventually, she became so exhausted that she became ill. Luke, a young farmer, came to her aid and hired her to work on his farm. However, his attitude towards her grew increasingly cold over time. One day, Luke's mother suffered from heart disease and Connie was tasked with nursing her back to health. Luke and Connie frequently discussed his mother's condition, and Connie found herself developing feelings for him. However, their fragile relationship was about to be put to the test.
