In the tiny nation of Reven, a sudden economic downturn occurs after a new monarch is crowned. Due to this, young Lydia is unable to afford her mother's sickness remedy. However, unexpectedly, someone purchases it for her. Grateful for this act of kindness, Lydia decides to become Lord Evert Drake's maid, despite her lack of experience. While accompanying her master to town, Lydia rescues Shiki from being sold as a slave. Shiki later protects Lord Evert from an assassination attempt. Impressed by Lydia's compassion, Shiki wishes to remain with her and is soon appointed as another servant in Lord Evert's household.
