Saku Chitose is often insulted online by those who envy his popularity. Despite this, he remains confident in himself. Outside of specific online forums, he is respected by his classmates and trusted by his teachers. As he begins his second year of high school, Saku reunites with his friends and meets new ones from the school's social elite. However, his joy is short-lived when his homeroom teacher assigns him the task of convincing Kenta Yamazaki to return to school. When he visits Kenta's home the next day, he discovers that Kenta is deeply hostile towards him. In order to maintain his positive image, Saku must find a way to win Kenta over and bring him back to school.
The series won the Award of Excellence in the 13th installment of the Shogakukan Light Novel Award in 2018 under the title Ramune no Bin ni Shizunda Biidama no Tsuki (ラムネの瓶に沈んだビー玉の月). It was later renamed to Chitose-kun wa Ramune Bin no Naka for the official publication. The novel placed first in the best light novel category of Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!'s 2021 and 2022 lists; it also ranked second in the guidebook's 2023 list.Chitose-kun wa Ramune Bin no Naka has been published in English as Chitose Is in the Ramune Bottle by Yen Press under the Yen On imprint since March 15, 2022.The city of Fukui launched a collaboration campaign to highlight various locations that the series features throughout the story in 2022.
