The movie's sequel features a unique storyline, separate from the original plot. Following the conclusion of a global conflict, Deunan Knute and Briareos are making ends meet as hired guns in post-apocalyptic New York City. While Deunan is hopeful to discover Olympus, the advanced technological utopia, Briareos isn't entirely convinced it exists. They encounter a young girl and her cyborg guardian who assert they are on an urgent assignment for Olympus and are evading a group of highly skilled cyborg mercenaries determined to thwart their mission at any cost.

Appleseed Alpha was published in English by Kodansha Comics USA in a hardcover omnibus on July 4, 2017.
