Mao Tsuchiya lives with Hisashi Otomo, who is secretly gay. To maintain their friendship, they established three rules: first, Mao should never disclose Hisashis sexual orientation; second, Hisashi should not view Mao as a romantic interest; and third, neither of them could hinder the other's personal needs. Initially, they had no issues living together until their movie club decided to produce a BL (boys love) film for their school festival project and cast Hisashi as the lead role.

Tasogare Out Focus was published digitally in English as Twilight Out of Focus by Kodansha USA on March 1, 2022, and in print under the Vertical Comics imprint on May 9, 2023, and in Spanish as Twilight Outfocus by Editorial Ivréa and Milky Way Ediciones.
