Last year, natsumi kimiyoshi and her family relocated from okinomiya, a mountainous town in japan. according to local folklore, individuals who departed from okinomiya or hinamizawa, its neighboring village, would be afflicted by the curse of oyashiro, their deity. despite this ominous portent, life remained tranquil following their departure until a sudden eruption of gas occurred near hinamizawa, resulting in numerous fatalities. this cataclysmic event served as the precursor to an array of horrifying calamities that would unfold in the ensuing days. afterward, many former residents of hinamizawa, including natsumis grandmother, exhibited bizarre behavior in a desperate attempt to ward off oyashiro's curse. consequently, her grandmother resorted to plastering talismans throughout their household and drowning puppies as offerings to the god. these unsettling actions instilled fear within natsumi and her family, prompting her mother to commit an unthinkable act in a bid to safeguard their lives.
