In 1978, Yoshihiro Tomino aimed to revolutionize Japan's animation industry by introducing more realistic robot narratives in his works. Prior to this, Japanese science fiction had focused on semi-autonomous robots that assisted humanity. As someone who had worked on these projects, Tomino felt that he wanted to see robots used more as tools controlled by humans. He collaborated with renowned artist Yoshikazu Yasuhiko in creating these new narratives, which would ultimately transform how Japanese animation was perceived and influenced other industries such as toys and comics. This transformation was not without conflict - battles were fought in the offices of the animation studio and recording booth as Tomino and his team worked tirelessly to bring these new ideas to life.
