In the coastal town of Hinashi, there is a legend that mermaids lurk near Merfolk Island and eat humans. This legend is perpetuated by locals like Kai Ashimoto's grandfather. Due to this belief, music is rarely discussed in the Ashimoto household because it is thought to attract merfolk and cause harm. Despite his gloomy demeanor, Kai finds comfort in making beats on his laptop and sharing them online.
One day, Kai is approached by two cheerful classmates, Kunio and Yuuho Ebina, who discovered one of his videos and invited him to join their rock band. Although he initially declined, Kai eventually agreed to practice with them on Merfolk Island. There, he witnessed something he couldn't explain.
Later that night, while composing music in his room, Kai attracted a familiar entity - a mermaid named Lu. She had incredible water manipulation powers, grew legs with the sound of music, and was genuinely benevolent. Kai and Lu formed a bond, testing the long-standing boundaries that had silenced the harmony in Hinashi Town.
