In this era known as the "Dark Age," fearsome creatures called Vandels reign supreme over the world. The only hope against these monsters are the Busters, a group of brave warriors who battle them relentlessly. When a team of Busters is defeated in combat, they pass on their enchanted Saiga weapons to Beet, making him the most powerful Buster yet. However, instead of merely fighting the Vandels, Beet seeks to annihilate them and put an end to the Dark Age once and for all.

Boukenou Beet started serialization in Monthly Shounen Jump magazine in the April 2002 issue, published on March 6. In 2004, the series received two anime adaptations, which aired for 77 episodes, and also a card and computer games. On October 6, 2006, because of Inadas illness, the series was put on long term hiatus. Furthermore, with the discontinuation of the magazine on June 6, 2007, it was put on an indefinite hiatus instead. The last chapter before the announcement was published in the September issue on August 5. On December 21, 2015, in the combined third and fourth issue of Weekly Shounen Jump, it was announced that the series will resume serialization next year in the Spring issue of quarterly Jump SQ.Crown magazine published on April 16.Boukenou Beet has been published in English as Beet the Vandel Buster by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint since October 19, 2004.
