The narrative revolves around link and tetra, who reside in a submerged hyrule known as the great sea. on board tetras pirate vessel, they stumble upon a phantom ship. as soon as tetra steps onto it, she screams for assistance. while attempting to follow her, link slips and tumbles into the sea. stranded on an island, he is awakened by ciela, a fairy. on this island, link discovers the phantom hourglass, which contains sands of time. an elderly gentleman named oshus resides there and seeks to assist him in locating the phantom ship and reuniting with tetra. to aid him on his journey, link enlists the help of captain linebeck and his vessel, s.s. linebeck. they visit various islands using this ship. after thorough exploration of the great sea, link learns that he must utilize maps and clues concealed in the temple of the ocean king to locate the spirits of courage, wisdom, and power, which will ultimately help him find the phantom ship.
