Nagisa Yamada is a junior high school student who resides in a small town situated far away from urban areas called Tottori. Her father passed away several years ago, and her mother works part-time jobs to support the family. Nagisa has a practical outlook on life and wishes to graduate as soon as possible so she can lead an independent lifestyle. On the other hand, Mokuzu Umino is a transfer student who appears to be quite melancholic and mysterious. She claims to be a mermaid who came to land in search of a true friend before a storm arrives. At Tottori High School, Nagisa and Mokuzu meet, develop an extraordinary bond, and work together to make the best out of their situation.
