A small gallery called Gallery Fake is located on Tokyo Bay's wharf. Its owner, Reiji Fujita, was once a curator at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. He had exceptional knowledge, skills, and language proficiency, earning him the nickname "the Professor." However, due to workplace issues, he left the museum and now operates as an art dealer who sells both authentic and fake paintings for exorbitant prices. His motto is that those without aesthetic sense are easily deceived and cheated out of their money. Despite this, Fujita is not a villain; rather, he appreciates art and artists' dedication to it. He does not solely profit from selling fake paintings but also takes them from corrupt politicians who view art as a means for bribes. Additionally, he restores destroyed paintings. Readers admire him for his passion and love for art, which often touches the lives of those around him, despite himself.
Gallery Fake won the 41st Shogakukan Manga Award for best seinen manga in 1995.
