In the early 16th century, Alexandra was taken captive by slave traders from Ukraine. She was then sold to a young and handsome man named Mateus in Greece. He promised her true freedom and hired many teachers, scholars, and palace ladies to train her into becoming the perfect woman of her time. Despite falling deeply in love with him, Alexandra discovered that he had already pledged her to his best friend, Suleiman the Great, Emperor of the Ottoman Empire.
Alexandra was promised freedom but found herself in another man's harem, unable to be near the one she loved. Determined to end her suffering, she vowed to free both Mateus and herself someday. However, Mateus held a powerful position as the Grand Vizier, second only to the Emperor himself. To have any hope of freedom, Alexandra realized that she must become the most influential concubine in the Ottoman Empire, which meant bearing Suleiman's son.
Suleiman already had a son by another concubine, and this woman was determined to keep her son as the only prince. Thus began the story of Alexandra, who would later be known as Roxelana, Empress of the Ottoman Empire.
