During a tumultuous night, Princess Zelda and her shrine maidens are worried that Vaatis' seal may be weakening. To safeguard herself and her companions, she calls upon Link and brings him to the castle. As they open the portal to the Four Sword Sanctuary, a mysterious figure emerges from it. This figure turns out to be Shadow Link, who kidnaps the shrine maidens and encloses them in crystals. In pursuit of this malefactor, Link journeys to the sanctuary where he retrieves the Four Sword to vanquish his doppelganger. The Four Sword is a mystical blade that divides its bearer into four replicas of himself. Eventually, Vaati breaks free and brings devastation upon the previously tranquil land.
