The narrative revolves around Kakeru Doumeguri, an introverted individual residing at the lowest tier of his school. Following a particular event, he transforms into Helschaft, a character within the virtual reality game "Exodia Exodus." Despite possessing this new form, Helschaft can also revert back to human form. Ririko Asagiri, someone Kakeru has long harbored feelings for, is likewise trapped in the game alongside her classmates, all of whom have pledged to vanquish Helschaft and return to their world. However, should Helschaft perish, everyone's lives would be at risk, prompting Kakeru/Helschaft to engage in combat with them. Among the other characters are Shuuko Aikawa, Kakerus supervisor at his part-time job in reality, and Helschafts servant within the game; as well as Non Shizukuishi, a tough and confident girl who is intrigued by Helschaft.
