In essence, "Mushi" are the fundamental forms of existence in the world, devoid of any objectives or motives other than simply existing. They transcend the boundaries of good and evil and can manifest themselves in a myriad of forms, mimicking aspects of the natural world such as plants, diseases, and even phenomena like rainbows. However, this definition only scratches the surface of these enigmatic entities that inhabit the rich universe of "Mushishi." Detailed information about mushi is scarce because most humans are unaware of their existence.
The question of what mushi are and why they exist constantly preoccupies Ginko, a "Mushishi" who dedicates his life to studying these elusive beings. He relentlessly pursues rumors of occurrences that may be linked to mushi in order to uncover their place in the hierarchy of life. For Ginko, this quest could potentially lead to the very meaning of existence itself.
