Humanity was hunted almost to extinction by monstrous humanoid creatures known as "titans." As a result, they sought refuge within walled cities. Over time, ignorance prevailed among the masses who forgot about the threat posed by the titans and became content with living in their fortresses. However, this changed when Angel Aaltonen witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by the titans. Driven to protect his friends from harm, he set out to create a powerful device capable of fighting against these creatures. A decade later, Kuklo was discovered in titan vomit as an infant and nicknamed "Titans son." He longed to understand why humans had always seen him as an object of fear and decided to join the Survey Corps. Unbeknownst to him, he may be the person that the stagnant military unit has been searching for. Shingeki no Kyojin: Before the Fall tells two interconnected stories about humanity's struggle against the titans. It highlights their loss and determination to overcome being seen as helpless prey and take action against these monstrous creatures.

Shingeki no Kyojin: Before the Fall is set before the beginning of the main series.It was published in English as Attack on Titan: Before the Fall by Vertical, Inc. from September 16, 2014 to May 26, 2015 with the latter two volumes released as a 2-in-1 omnibus titled Attack on Titan: Kuklo Unbound. It has been licensed in Spanish by Norma Editorial.
