Before gaining fame, Atsushi attended an industrial high school in his hometown of Shimonoseki. During this time, he was suspended twice - once for smoking and once for cheating on a test. Prior to becoming interested in comedy, Atsushi was part of a band. For his first comedic performance, he collaborated with a classmate from school. They called themselves Umaseki Fugutarou and Fugunosuke, which was derived from the name of their hometown, Shimonoseki, and fugu or pufferfish, a local delicacy. Later on, after moving to Tokyo, Atsushi teamed up with Ryo Tamura under the name "London Boots." Although this name does not have any specific meaning in English, it refers to knee-length platform shoes popular among some Japanese girls in Japan. Currently, Atsushi is the vocalist of the band Jealkb.
