Kanda Takeyuki (August 11, 1943 - July 27, 1996) was an animator and director born in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. He began his career at Mushi Pro before joining Sunrise Studios, where he is best known for his work on the hit anime Ginga Hyouryuu Vifam. This series, which was loosely based on Jules Vernes Two Years Vacation novel, spawned a 46-episode TV series, four additional OVA series, and a remake produced in 1998. Kanda Takeyuki passed away suddenly at the age of 52 in a car accident while working as the director on the Gundam 08th MS Team OVA series. Iida Umanosuke took over the production for the rest of the series and completed it in Kandas stead. Additionally, Iida directed the movie "Millers Report," which he considers to be Kandas work. In memory of Kanda Takeyuki, a remake of Vifam was broadcasted in 1998.
