Junichi Sato is a renowned Japanese anime director who specializes in shōjo-based anime and magical girl genre works. He was previously affiliated with TYO Animations, which later became Hal Film Maker. Born on March 11th, 1960, in Ama, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, Sato's first significant project was directing the initial two seasons of Sailor Moon for Toei Animation. Although he handed over the role to Kunihiko Ikuhara later on, he continued to contribute as a storyboard artist and director for subsequent seasons. He also co-directed Ojamajo Doremi and Princess Tutu. As chief director, Sato oversaw long-running series such as Sgt. Frog. Recently, he has gained recognition for his "healing anime," including Aria and Tamayura.
