She studied at Tama University of Art in Tokyo. Her debut manga was Rokujô Gekijô, which was published in Comic Burger in 1992. This work won her the Shiki prize from Kodansha in 1993. A year later, Mannequin also received recognition. In 1995, she began Hitsuji no Uta in Comic Burger and continued it when the magazine ceased publication in Birz. This series lasted for six years and was adapted into a radio play and animated film. Yesterday wo Utatte (Sing Yesterday For Me), inspired by an RC Succession song, began in 1997. Toume has contributed to many fanzines and specialized magazines, as well as being active in video games and films. She designed the characters for Giga Wing, a shoot em up game.
