Nobuterus began his career as an artist with humble beginnings before pursuing a career in animation. He worked in a government job and was just a fan of anime prior to attending an anime convention where he met an animator who encouraged him to pursue the field. His first projects were doujinshi, self-published manga that he worked on under the pen name The Man In The High Castle. During this time, Nobuterus looked to other anime and manga as inspiration for his work. He secured a position at Studio Min and DAST where he worked on Megazone 23, which helped him establish himself in the animation industry. His career continued to grow with character design roles being assigned to him, including one for the anime movie Five Star Stories in 1989. Nobuterus also expanded his options by taking on commissions for video game conceptual design, starting with Seiken Densetsu 3 in 1995. He is best known for providing character designs for Chrono Cross and following titles in the Mana series.
