Steppenwolf is a well-known Canadian-American rock band that gained popularity between 1968 and 1972. The group was established in Toronto in late 1967 by vocalist John Kay, keyboardist Goldy McJohn, and drummer Jerry Edmonton. Two additional members, guitarist Michael Monarch and bassist Rushton Moreve, were recruited through advertisements placed in record stores and musical instrument shops in the LA area. The core of Steppenwolf consisted of John Kay, Jerry Edmonton, and Goldy McJohn, who had previously been part of The Sparrows.
