A Japanese illustrator who was born in Osaka Prefecture is known for his work on the series Zero no Tsukaima. He has also worked as an insert artist, creating images for various novels. After graduating from university, he began working as an illustrator for Visual Arts, a visual novel publisher. Under the pseudonym Sawagani (SAWAガニ), he created designs that were similar to those of other "people." This was later discovered by Tōya Okano, a scenario assistant at Visual Arts who worked on Clannad's Angel Magister game.
