Chara (ちゃら), whose real name is Watabiki Miwa (綿引美和), is a renowned Japanese singer-songwriter, actress, and video jockey. In 1991, she made her debut with the single Heaven. She gained widespread recognition for her hit songs such as Swallowtail Butterfly (Ai no Uta) from the 1996 Shunji Iwai film of the same name in which she starred, Yasashii Kimochi (やさしい気持ち), and her collaboration with Judy and Mary vocalist Yuki on Ai no Hi Mittsu Orange (愛の火 3つ オレンジ). Chara later formed a band with Yuki called Mean Machine. She is celebrated for her distinctive whisper voice singing technique.
