At the age of 9, Akina discovered her passion for anime after watching Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan with her brother. She later participated in the Anisong Grand Prix under the stage name Chuna Cho as a 14-year-old and became a finalist after winning the Sendai qualification tournament. However, she was eliminated in the first round of the Tokyo finals. In high school, Akina enrolled at Clark Memorial International High School's Akihabara IT campus. She won the role of Hikaru Nanase in the Xbox 360 game Meikyuu Cross Blood Reloaded through a seiyuu audition. Later, she was accepted into Sun Music Production under her stage name Chuna and made her anime debut as a regular extra voice in Binbougami ga! In June 2013, Akina formed the vocal unit Princess Kettsu with fellow seiyuu Mariko Nakatsu and Mako Morino. The group disbanded in July 2014. After leaving Sun Music Production in March 2015, Akina became a freelancer. She later joined Stardust Promotion in January 2016 and stopped using her stage name Chuna, instead using her real name, Akina.
