The story revolves around two characters - Professor Hershel Layton, an accomplished archaeologist, puzzle solver, and gentleman, along with his young apprentice Luke Triton. They receive a letter from their former student Janice Quatlane that contains tickets to an opera at the Crown Petone. This is not just any ordinary opera; it's a game for finding the legendary Fountain of Youth, which grants eternal life. However, this is only the beginning of a larger mystery that they must solve together in order to survive. Throughout their journey, they encounter intricate puzzles and intense competition, but as true gentlemen, they never abandon their principles or leave any puzzle unsolved.
