Two years ago, the world experienced a significant shift due to the actions of Sephiroth and his plan to destroy Earth with a giant meteor. Although Cloud Strife and his companions managed to stop him, this victory came at a great cost. The city of Midgar was almost completely destroyed during the conflict. However, many citizens were able to escape and establish a new home called Edge. Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children focuses on Cloud and Tifa as they attempt to rebuild their lives in this new city, along with their mutual friend Barret and his adopted daughter Marlene, as well as an orphan named Denzel who is suffering from a mysterious illness known as Geostigma. Additionally, the children of Edge are facing another threat: a group of powerful men are kidnapping infected kids for unknown reasons. Cloud is determined to save these young ones not only from Geostigma but also from their captors. However, he has no idea that these men have ties to his old enemy Sephiroth, and his quest to defeat them will bring him back into conflict with the demons of his past. The hope for conquering these threats lies in the strong bonds of friendship between Cloud and his allies who saved the world once and must do so again.
