In Japan, the number of terrorist acts has been at an all-time low thanks to Direct Attack (DA), a syndicate responsible for training orphaned girls as killers under their "Lycoris" program. One such exceptional Lycoris is Takina Inoue, who possesses a strong sense of purpose and a penchant for perfection. However, during a hostage situation, her insubordination leads to her transfer from DA to LycoReco, a cafe in disguise that serves as her new base of operations.
Takinas new partner at LycoReco is Chisato Nishikigi, the famed Lycoris prodigy. Unlike what Takina expected, Chisato appears unconcerned with their duties and often takes Takina on odd jobs under the guise of helping people in need. This leaves Takina feeling out of place and longing to be reinstated into DA. However, Chisato is determined to show Takina that there is more to life than just taking lives.
Lycoris Recoil was released on Blu-ray and DVD in Japan from September 21, 2022 to February 22, 2023.
