In Japan's Taisho Era (1912-1926), Dr. Ayanokoji created the Steel Angel - an artificial humanoid with extraordinary physical capabilities. Although the Imperial Army aimed to use it as a new weapon for modern warfare, Ayanokoji envisioned his invention as a leap forward in humanity's future. Disregarding orders from the military, he kept the project secret and named it "Kurumi". One day, a young boy named Nakahito Kagura broke into Ayanokojis house out of curiosity and discovered Kurumis lifeless form. Suddenly, an attack by the Imperial Army shook the building, causing Kurumi to fall on Nakahito. As their lips touched, Kurumi was revived from what she called "the kiss that started a miracle".
