The three kingdoms of Dolhr, Grust, and Gra unite in war against Archanea and Altea, resulting in King Cornelius' death. However, Prince Marth escapes thanks to the sacrifice of his sister Elice. He and a small group of retainers seek refuge on Talys for three years under royal protection. Life is peaceful there as he enjoys the beauty of the island and forms a friendship with its pegasus-riding princess Caeda. Despite this, Marth remains uneasy knowing that one day he must take up arms again. This moment comes when Caeda arrives in panic to inform him that the castle town has been attacked. After some close calls, they manage to defeat the assailants and save the city. Realizing that his presence may bring further danger to Talys, Marth decides it is time to set out on a journey to raise an army and reclaim his kingdom.
