In 5053, viscount albert de morcerf and baron franz depinay attend a carnival festival on luna's moon city. while franz is just looking to have fun, albert seeks something more in life. during an opera performance, he meets the count of monte cristo, a mysterious nobleman who captures his attention. over time, they become friends and the count introduces himself into french society. however, the count has a hidden agenda-he plans to seek revenge on those who wronged him years earlier. gankutsuou follows their intertwined destinies and the ultimate cost of seeking vengeance.
