Takaya was sent to Kyoto on an investigation concerning the revival of the Ikko sect and Araki Murashige, one of its members who had deserted the clan. With assistance from his vassal Haruie, Takaya successfully traces Araki, who possesses a 400-year-old mandala made of deceased Araki clansmen's hair. However, by the time they meet, Haruie recognizes Araki as Shintarou, her past lover. Takaya orders her to eliminate him, but whether she will be able to do so remains uncertain. Additionally, Takaya finally meets Naoe.
