In accordance with the structure of the R Season, Sailor Stars is composed of two arcs. The initial arc serves as a resolution for conflicts from SuperS and marks the return of Haruka, Michiru, Setsuna, and Hotaru (who has been reborn as a child). On the other hand, the second arc represents the true plotline derived from the manga. During this arc, Usagi bids farewell to Mamoru, who is heading off to America for academic pursuits. In his stead arrives the Three Lights, an idol trio comprising of Seiya, Taiki, and Yaten. The new antagonist is Galaxia, a woman with ambitions to dominate the entire galaxy by amassing the Star Seeds of humans. To counter this threat, three additional Senshi emerge, known as the Sailor Starlights, who endeavor to halt Galaxia's plans without the aid of Sailor Moons.
