Medabots are advanced robots that receive artificial intelligence through unique "medals." These machines serve their owners' commands and are commonly used in Robbatling, a popular combat sport where two medabots battle each other. Professional Medafighters utilize their Medabots to compete in the World Tournament and fight against top-tier opponents to become champions. Recently, elementary school student Ikki Tenryou received his first Medabot, Metabee, an outdated model without a medal. Despite this, Ikki discovered a medal near a river and placed it on Metabees head. However, the robot exhibited unusual behavior, becoming short-tempered and disobeying Ikkis orders. To progress to the World Tournament and become champions, Ikki and Metabee must learn to cooperate despite their initial difficulties.

The anime combines the details and plot of the first two video games into the adaptation.
