In the movie, Mario and Luigi own a grocery shop. One evening, while playing Famicom, Mario is interrupted when Princess Peach appears on TV asking for help from her attackers. She jumps out of the screen and Mario falls in love with her, vowing to protect her. The next day, Koopa appears on TV and grabs Princess Peach before taking her into the TV. Mario finds a brooch that Peach left behind, which becomes a source of concern for him. Luigi notices it too and calls it the "Visionary Jewel from the Land of Wealth". Meanwhile, Kibidango, a small dog-like creature, enters the store and notices Mario's possession of Peach's brooch. He takes it away, enraging Mario, leading to his chase with Kibidango into the Mushroom Kingdom.
