The new Ranma ½ animation was released twelve years after the final OVA and manga. It was a special for the "Rumiko Takahashi's Artwork Exhibition," which took place in Tokyo from July 30th to August 11th. This thirty-minute special is based on the story of "Nightmare! Incense of Spring Sleep" from volume 34 of the manga. The animation was shown only on odd numbered days during the exhibition.
