The Redline competition is a renowned racing event held every five years with no rules except one. It pushes racers to their limits and attracts highly skilled drivers like JP, who recently qualified for this year's edition. He looks forward to competing against other talented participants, including the stunning Sonoshee McLaren, the only human qualifier besides him. This year's Redline takes place on Roboworld, a planet known for its aggressive military and criminal elements that seek to exploit the race for their own benefit. Despite these dangers, competitors remain undeterred, embracing the added excitement of racing in such an unpredictable environment. JP focuses solely on his vehicle's speed as he prepares for this monumental event, aiming to secure first place and make it the crowning achievement of his career.

Redline took a full seven years to create and used more than 100,000 frames in production. When finally complete, it made its debut at the 2009 Locarno International Film Festival, more than a year before it came to Japanese theaters.
