In Clock Hill's Maison Ikkoku boarding house, Yuusaku Godai is a quiet tenant who has grown fed up with his boisterous neighbors and their constant disruptions. He plans to leave the residence in search of peace and quiet so he can focus on studying. However, his plans are put on hold when he meets Kyoko Otonashi, the new boarding house manager. Despite her romantic troubles - she is a widow whose husband passed away six months into their marriage - Godai falls deeply in love with her. Meanwhile, Kyoko harbors feelings for Godai but also cherishes her deceased spouse and believes no other man could replace him. With the help of the eccentric tenants and Godais persistence, she may eventually find true love again.
