Porco rosso is an anthropomorphic pig who was once a wwi fighter pilot turned bounty hunter. he has been transformed into this form due to a rare curse, which means he used to be known as marco pagot while still in his human form. currently, he goes by the name "red pig." porco is reunited with an old friend gina at a hotel and falls in love with her, despite his strange appearance. however, curtis, an american ace fighter, also wants ginas heart. although she rejects him, curtis does not give up easily and shoots down porcos plane during his return flight to milan. despite being declared dead, porco survives the crash due to a stroke of luck. he must now continue his journey back by train while dealing with an arrest warrant issued in italy. additionally, he must find gina, seek revenge against curtis, and prepare for the impending war that threatens europe.
The film won the 1992 Mainichi Film Award for animation.
