Akitsu Masanosuke is a skilled and loyal swordsman who has been let go by various lords due to his naïve and diffident nature. In search of work, he becomes a bodyguard for Yaichi, the leader of a notorious gang known as "Five Leaves." Although Masa is initially disturbed by the gang's sinister activities, he begins to suspect that Yaichis motivations are not what they seem. Despite his misgivings, Masa finds himself increasingly drawn into the world of the Five Leaves and becomes fascinated by these devious and mysterious outlaws.
